Chicago Innovation Challenge@Knapp Center

Welcome to the Chicago Innovation Challenge, 2016

Illinois Tech's Jules F. Knapp Entrepreneurship Center presents the 2016 Chicago Innovation Challenge (the "Contest") sponsored by The Fogelson Family Foundation, which is the lead non-Illinois Tech Sponsor,as well as the Coleman Foundation,and mHub;a new innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing. 

 

Who's Eligible:

  1. Currently enrolled Illinois Tech Students (“Category I”)
  2. Currently enrolled students at other universities and colleges located in the City of Chicago (“Category II”)
  3. Currently enrolled Chicago Public High School and Chicago Charter School students(“Category III”)

 

Guidelines:

  1. Contestants can be individual qualifying students, or teams of qualifying students. All students must attend the same educational institution when forming a team, and maximum team size is limited to four (4) team members. 
  2. Innovations created can be physical things, applications and applications that control physical things. Innovations can also be a combination of ideas: Examples: A thing that talks to a Smart Phone via Bluetooth, or an app that controls a physical thing.
  3. Participants (individuals or teams) who win must agree to be photographed and interviewed for Knapp Center and IIT promotional efforts and understand that their ideas will be publicized.
  4. Registration and application deadline to participate in this contest is: September 30, 2016 at 11:59 PM.
  5. For the Final Phase of judging, one person, as an individual entrant or as part of a finalist team must be willing to pitch to an panel of judges on November 17, 2016.

 

Judges:

The winners will be selected by a panel of area business men and women and faculty and/or staff of Illinois Tech, other Chicago colleges and universities and/or Chicago public high schools and Chicago public charter high schools appointed by Illinois Tech.

 

Prizes:

First Prize: $2,500 and a certificate good for 6 weeks of free rent at the mHub Co-Working Space, the City’s new innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing;

Second Prize: $1,000 and a certificate good for 6 weeks of free rent at the mHub Co-Working Space, the City’s new innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing; and

Third Prize: $500 and a certificate good for 6 weeks of free rent at the mHub Co-Working Space, the City’s new innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing.

 

A total of 9 prizes will be awarded: the referenced three prizes to the winning Category I Participants, the referenced three prizes to the winning Category II Participants, and the referenced three prizes to the winning Category III Participants.
